AUSTIN — A handful of area softball players were honored by the Texas Girls Coaches Association on Wednesday as they were named to the TGCA all-state team following the conclusion of the UIL season last week.

Pilot Point, which won the Class 2A state championship last week with a 1-0 win over Kingsville Santa Gertrudis Academy, had two players named to the Class 2A all-state team.

Senior pitcher Skylar Cagle, a Northwestern State signee, led the Lady Cats to a 40-win season by hitting .617 with five home runs and 39 RBIs. In the circle, Cagle was nearly untouchable, compiling a miniscule ERA of 0.72 with a 28-0 record, 259 strikeouts and 29 walks.

Her teammate, sophomore shortstop and No. 2 pitcher Preslee Gallaway, also earned all-state recognition after batting .457 and leading the team in home runs (eight) and RBIs (52). In the circle, Gallaway went 12-2 with a 2.55 ERA and 126 strikeouts.

Three other area players were named to the Class 3A all-state team, as Sanger senior Nicole Nordie, a four-year standout, and sophomore Morgan Turkoly were named to the team along with Argyle shortstop Blair O’Brien.

O’Brien, who also was an all-stater in volleyball, finished her senior season with a .423 batting average, three home runs and 28 RBIs and went the entire season without striking out.

Nordie was named the MVP of District 9-3A, while Turkoly was the district’s Offensive Player of the Year.
