Volleyball roundup: Aubrey wins three at Spikefest

McKINNEY — The Aubrey Lady Chaps won three matches Thursday to advance into Saturday’s Gold bracket play at the Collin County Spikefest.

The Lady Chaps (3-2) defeated Commerce 25-21, 25-19 in their first match, then knocked off Bells 25-17, 25-16 before closing out the day by defeating Cumby 25-9, 25-10.

Natalie Gattusa led Aubrey with 11 kills on the day, while Micayla Porter was the team leader with 16 assists.

Alex Martinez added 12 assists and eight kills for the Lady Chaps.


Argyle takes two of three

The Argyle Lady Eagles won two of their three matches on the opening day of the Ryan Kick-Off Classic.

The Lady Eagles defeated Grapevine Faith 25-10, 25-14, 25-18 and Pilot Point 25-12, 25-16, 25-18 before falling to McKinney 25-21, 19-25, 25-20, 25-21.

Pilot Point also lost to Frisco Wakeland, but the Lady Cats beat Fort Worth Brewer 22-25, 25-19, 25-12, 20-25, 15-6.

The host Lady Raiders dropped two matches on the day — against Frisco Heritage and Prosper — but topped Fort Worth Trimble Tech 25-11, 25-9, 25-22.

Playing their first matches of the tournament today will be Guyer, Lake Dallas and Liberty Christian, each at 9 a.m.
