Guyer will have three representatives at the Class 4A state meet Saturday at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.

Senior Devin Norton headlines Guyer’s girls entrants after she claimed the Class 4A Region I championship with a time of 17:49.44 at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock.

The top three teams and top 10 individual runners from each region advanced to the state meet.

Guyer junior Brianne Van Voorhis took ninth at regionals with a personal-best time of 18:25.74, while senior Colby Kuehler was the only boys qualifier in sixth place with a 15:45.23.

Sanger’s boys team will look to improve upon last year’s fifth-place state finish after back-to-back years of finishing second.

The Indians finished second behind Decatur in the Class 3A Region II meet, which was hosted by Texas-Arlington at Lynn Creek Park.

Sanger senior Jacob Perry, whose most recent state tournament appearance was in May at the Class 3A track and field meet in Austin, finished third at regionals with a time of 16:35.92. Sophomore Josh Rainey finished 11th with a time of 17:18.24. Seniors Quinten Cassaday, Josh Mills and Anthony Wasser also qualified for Sanger along with junior Jose Rodriguez and freshman Alfonso Fascio.

Among 3A girls, Argyle freshman Laina Sorensen advanced to state with her 10th-place time of 12:05.35, while Sanger junior Ashley Martinez qualified in fifth place at 11:55.89. Sanger freshman Audrey Springer finished right behind her in sixth at 11:56.09.
