Basketball roundup: Ponder boys win tourney title

PONDER — Ponder grabbed the lead early and didn’t let go as the Lions (5-1) coasted to a 47-28 victory over Liberty Christian on Saturday to win their own tournament.

Brady Anderson, who made the all-tourney team, led the Lions with 15 points, while tourney MVP Clay Morgan dropped in 14.

For the Warriors, all-tournament performers Stephen Ugochukwu and Jacob Link scored 10 and four points, respectively.

The Lions will play at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Princeton.

ARGYLE — Six Argyle players scored in double figures as the Eagles ran away with their season opener on Saturday.

Colton Wilkes led Argyle with 15 points. Mike Morris scored 13, Reed Davis and Jared Cole scored 12 each, Kade Barnett added 11 and Hunter Shoemake had 10.

The Eagles (1-0) play at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Wylie.

AUBREY — Drew Davis poured in 30 points to lead the Chapparals to their first win of the season.

Michael Page and Cooper Turrubiarte each added 11 points for Aubrey (1-1), which will play host to Pilot Point at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Argyle 45, Rowlett 28

BURLESON — A 26-6 halftime lead, sparked by holding Rowlett to zero points in the second quarter, led the Argyle girls basketball team to the Lady Spartan Classic championship at Burleson Centennial.

Delaney Sain, who claimed tournament MVP honors, scored 16 points to lead the Lady Eagles (6-0).

Vivian Gray added eight points and was named all-tournament.

The Lady Eagles will host Ryan at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
