Basketball roundup: Ryan splits at tourney

THE COLONY — The Ryan Raiders dropped their third straight game at The Colony tournament Saturday before beating Garland Naaman Forest 58-54.

In a 51-35 loss to Garland, Ryan (6-8) was led by Xavier Pittman and Ibrahim Logan with 15 and 14 points, respectively.

Against Naaman Forest, Trent Willis and Logan each netted 16 points and Pittman scored 11.

The Raiders will host McKinney at 1:30 p.m. Friday.

 

Ponder 65, Clarksville 34

SAGINAW — Ponder had two players top the 20-point mark as the Lions defeated Clarksville in their finale in the Whataburger Tournament’s Blue bracket.

Brady Anderson scored 22 points to lead Ponder and Chase Harris added 20. Clay Morgan chipped in with 11.

Ponder will play at Millsap at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

 

Girls

Argyle 38, Abilene Wylie 30

SAGINAW — The Argyle Lady Eagles allowed just eight first-half points to Abilene Wylie and held on in the second half to win their second straight Whataburger Tournament.

Argyle’s Jesse Sheridan (12 points) was selected as tournament MVP. Vivian Gray (13 points) and Delaney Sain (nine points) each made the all-tournament team.

Argyle (19-1) will play at Prestonwood Academy at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.

 

Aubrey 49, Era 42 (OT)

GAINESVILLE — It took an extra quarter, but Aubrey’s girls defeated Era in overtime to win the NCTC Holiday Classic.

Kendyl Wright, the tournament MVP, scored a game-high 27 points, while all-tournament selection Scarlett Gregory added nine points.

The Lady Chaps (11-7) will host Frisco Lone Star at 6:15 p.m. Friday.

 

Burleson 54, Denton 42

The Denton girls were outscored 20-7 in the third quarter after trailing by five points at halftime, leading to a runaway road win for Burleson.

Lauren Cowling was Denton’s only double-digit scorer with 10 points.

The Lady Broncos will host Wichita Falls at 12:30 p.m. Friday.

 

Prosper tournament

PROSPER — Krum dropped two close games — 52-46 to Gunter and 47-44 to Frisco Heritage — on the final day of the Prosper tournament.

Caylee Thomas had 13 points and Haley Lewis 10 in the first loss for Krum, while Kylee Myers scored 20 points in the later game.

The Lady Cats (11-11) will play at Bridgeport at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
