Softball roundup: Argyle, Sanger, Ponder taste victory at local tournament

ARGYLE — Argyle, Sanger and Ponder each claimed one win on the final day of the Argyle/Liberty Christian tournament Saturday.

The host Eagles beat Callisburg 6-1 before falling to Sadler S&S Consolidated 5-3. For the tournament, Adilen Gonzalez went 8-for-12 with a home run and 10 RBIs for Argyle, while pitcher Alyssa Bruton struck out 23 batters with just two walks and a 2.22 ERA in five games.

Earlier in the day at Argyle, Sanger defeated Lake Dallas 7-4 and lost 6-1 to Prosper, which finished the tournament undefeated.

At Liberty, the Warriors opened the day with a 16-5 loss to Sunnyvale and ended it with a 24-1 loss to Callisburg.

Ponder and Lake Dallas lost to Frisco Centennial consecutively, 4-0 and 3-2, respectively. The Lions followed up their loss with a 2-0 win over S&S Consolidated. The Falcons fell to Prosper 13-1.

Liberty and Lake Dallas return to action Tuesday. The Warriors play at Fort Worth Southwest Christian at 4:30 p.m., and the Falcons play at Keller at 7 p.m.

Ponder will be at the NCTC Swinging for a Cure Tournament on Thursday, and Sanger will play in the Van Alstyne tournament the same day. Argyle will be at Decatur at 7 p.m. Friday.
