Baseball roundup: Broncos take two at Classic

The Denton Broncos rebounded from a 9-0 Thursday night loss to defending Class 4A champion Tomball to pick up a pair of come-from-behind wins on Friday in the Russell Athletics North Texas Classic at Bronco Field.

Denton defeated Texarkana Texas High 10-9 in the afternoon before knocking off Denison 5-3 in the nightcap.

Against Texas High, Denton rallied from a seven-run deficit to earn the victory.

Texas High scored five times in the third inning and two more times in the fourth to take the 7-0 advantage. The Broncos battled back with a single run in the fourth, scored four more times in the fifth and five times in the sixth to pull in front.

Mark Johnson was the hitting star for the Broncos with a double and home run and drove in four. Wyatt Folsom and George Elliot had three hits each while Roman Arnold added two more in the 14-hit Denton attack.

Josh Chavez was the winning pitcher for Denton, allowing nine runs on seven hits.

Facing Denison in the nightcap, the Broncos trailed 1-0 in the fifth when they scored five times, highlighted by a three-run home by Chavez.

Folsom picked up the pitching win for Denton, allowing three runs on six hits.

 

Farmersville tournament

FARMERSVILLE — Farmersville took advantage of four fourth-inning errors by Aubrey to rally for a 9-5 victory and hand the Chaparrals their first loss.

The Chaps led 2-0 after three innings before Farmersville tied the game and then pushed across six runs in the fourth and one in the fifth.

Austin Kohnley suffered the pitching loss for Aubrey, allowing six runs on just two hits. Noah Vaughn led Aubrey at the plate with two hits.

The Chaps knocked off Pilot Point 5-1 earlier behind a strong pitching effort from Vaughn and Cole Cannon. Vaughn went the first four innings, allowing one run on two hits and striking out six before Cannon pitched the final three innings, allowing one hit and striking out two.

Kohnley led Aubrey at the plate with two hits.
