FRISCO — Krum forced the deciding game on Friday night, handing Celina an 8-3 defeat in Game 2 of their Class 3A Region II best-of-three playoff series at Frisco Heritage.

Krum (15-15-1) and Celina will face off in the series finale at 4 p.m. today at Frisco Heritage.

“It was a much better effort all the way around for us,” said Krum coach Ray Miller. “We hit the ball up and down the lineup and everyone stepped up and contributed.”

Krum smashed out 12 hits, including four doubles, in the win, providing plenty of support for starter Colton Knierim.

Knierim went the distance for Krum, striking out six and scattering five hits to claim the win.

“This was probably the biggest game he’s pitched in,” Miller said. “And once we got him some runs, he settled in and pitched really well.”

Much like Thursday’s game, Krum had a great early scoring chance after loading the bases with one out in the second inning. However, a strikeout and an infield flyout from Celina’s Tanner Davis ended the threat.

Celina responded with a run in the top of the third, as Camden Grant walked with the bases loaded to claim a 1-0 lead. A double-play grounder, however, kept Celina from turning in a possible big inning.

That big inning belonged to Krum instead, as they brought nine men to the plate and scored six times on six hits to take command of the contest.

Back-to-back RBI doubles by Colton Lucas and Colten Graham (2-for-4) helped open the floodgates, with Justan Bailey (2-for-4) and Mason Lucas (2-for-3) adding run-scoring singles. Krum’s Michael Tanttari capped the frame with a two-run double to right center.

“That inning was huge for us,” Miller said. “Again, we got contributions from several of our guys to drive in runs.”

The scoring outburst chased Celina’s Davis, who gave up seven hits in 2-plus innings to take the loss.

Krum pushed its lead to 7-1 in the fourth, as Logan Pierce hustled home from third on a throwing error.

The advantage grew to 8-1 in the fifth when Carter Stokes scored on a wild pitch, with Celina capping the game’s scoring in the seventh on an RBI double by Mo Robinson and a sacrifice fly by Grant.
