KRUM — The excitement was palpable as fans packed Bobcat Stadium on a cool Friday night to see Krum play host to Alvord for the Bobcats’ first football homecoming.
Krum (3-0) dominated on the ground and continued its undefeated streak, rolling to a 59-14 victory over the Bulldogs (1-2).
“It’s good for our program and for the younger kids to see this because we’re trying to build a championship football program,” Krum head coach Gary Robinson said. “The only way to do that is with a lot of support from the community, and we got it tonight.”
Alvord had no answers for the Krum defense, gaining only two first downs in the first half.
Krum quarterback Cam Wojiciak and running back Reed Flores carried the load on the ground for the Bobcats as the pair combined for 248 yards by halftime.
Wojiciak finished with 171 yards on 14 carries and threes scores, all in the first half, while Flores carried the ball 14 times for 105 yards and two touchdowns.
After holding the Bobcats to a three-and-out on their first possession, Alvord running back Joe Randall broke free for 12 yards but lost control of the ball as he was tackled. Randall appeared to be injured after the fumble and played sparingly in the second half. Krum’s offense took advantage of the early mistake and drove the ball 64 yards before Flores punched it in from a yard out.
After an Alvord punt, Wojiciak looked for receiver Brennan Ellis downfield, but his pass was intercepted and returned 45 yards for a touchdown by Alvord’s Ty Silvey to make the score 7-6 with 6:52 left in the opening quarter.
With 4:24 seconds left in the first, Wojiciak took a shotgun snap on third and 5 from the Alvord 25-yard line. Wojiciak faked to Flores and kept the ball around the right end and finished the run with a dive into the end zone to give Krum a 14-6 lead.
Wojiciak scored again on a 15-yard keeper around the left with 5:21 left before halftime to give the Bobcats a 26-6 lead.
After stopping Alvord’s fake punt attempt on their opening possession of the second half, Wojiciak tossed a screen pass to Ellis, who weaved through defenders en route to a 23-yard score and a 45-6 lead.
Wojiciak hit another screen pass on the next drive, this time to Tanner Rankin, who ran 24 yards for another touchdown to give the Bobcats a 52-6 lead with 53 seconds left in the third quarter.
Dane White impressed in the second half for the Bobcats, carrying the ball 13 times for 94 yards.
Gavin Noack recovered a fumble and raced 89 yards to make the score 59-14 with 44 seconds left. Noack also replaced Wojiciak at quarterback in the fourth quarter and carried the ball twice for 16 yards.
