The Krum tennis program has a history of success, but the 2013 team has written a new chapter following the District 9-3A tournament this week.

Krum won four titles and finished second in another bracket to sweep the boys and girls championships. When the Class 3A Region II tournament begins next week, a school-record 15 players will be competing.

Mickey Griffith and Katie Callahan teamed to win the girls doubles crown, defeating teammates Mackenzie Ripple and Michelle Perdue in the final. Sarah Sprabary won the singles crown, defeating teammate Maggie Quy in the final.

Zach Ripple and Jake Johnson won the boys doubles title, defeating teammates Alex Crouse and Chris Leal in the final.

Jacob Atterberry was defeated in the boys singles final, but his second-place finish secured him a spot in the regional.

In mixed doubles, Chris Atterberry and Julia Schmaltz defeated teammates Anthony Hurlbut and Brittani Roy in the final.

The Region II tournament will be played Wednesday and Thursday at Eagles Landing Tennis Center in Allen.
