CORINTH — Lake Dallas knew Wichita Falls Rider was without its top weapon in quarterback J.T. Barrett. But the rest of the Raiders more than made up for their fallen teammate.

Rider dusted off an old relic, the single wing formation, and rode it to a 26-7 win over Lake Dallas on Friday night.

The win kept Rider (5-1, 3-0) undefeated in District 5-4A action, while the Falcons (3-3, 1-2) now have some work to do to stay in the race.

Barrett, who has verbally committed to Ohio State, tore his ACL in last week’s game. Backup Chase London took over and made his first career start against the Falcons and threw for 50 yards and two interceptions.

But the running game was the star. Late in the first quarter the Raiders went to a single wing formation, with Domanic Thrasher and D.J. Arnold serving as the primary backs. Thrasher rushed for 144 yards and two touchdowns before leaving late in the fourth quarter with an injury.

The Raiders gained 253 yards on the ground and controlled a Lake Dallas defense that was left on the field too long by a Falcons offense that proved unable to sustain drives.

Lake Dallas was down 13-0 at halftime after a 4-yard touchdown run by Thrasher and a 63-yard touchdown run by Brandon Williams, the latter of which came on a bad snap on a punt. The Falcons came out of the gate in the third quarter and moved the ball consistently for the first time. Running back Tony Green capped the drive with a 27-yard touchdown run with 9:01 left in the third quarter. Green finished with 91 rushing yards.

On the preceding play, quarterback Marshall Dominy threw a pass under duress that didn’t reach the line of scrimmage, incurring a loss of down and a 16-yard penalty. That summed up the night for the Falcons, who gained only 253 total yards. Dominy was 7-of-22 passing for 71 yards and an interception. Lake Dallas receivers dropped several passes. Dominy proved more effective as a rusher, gaining 76 yards.

Lake Dallas also had eight penalties for 84 yards, many of which were either pre-snap penalties or holding penalties. It seemed every time the Falcons had momentum, a penalty set them back and put them in a long down-and-distance situation from which they couldn’t recover.
