Powerlifting: Two Ponder powerlifters qualify for state meet

PONDER — Two members of the Ponder Lions powerlifting team have quailified to compete in the Texas High School Powerlifting Association state meet in Abilene on March 22.

Chris Aivaliotis and Thomas Waite secured spots in the state meet with second place finishes Saturday at the Region 6 Division 3 championships.

Aivialiotis, competing in the 275-pound class, finished with a lift total of 1,650 pounds, to take second in the class. Waite added 45 pounds to his season best in the super-heavyweight division to also take second.

Ponder’s Jared Fredman finished sixth in the 132 class, Zach Allen was seventh in the 123 class and Allen Mullis was seventh in the 242 class. Andrew Borsch finished eighth in the 198 class.
