SPRINGTOWN — Just as he had done all night, senior kicker Mikael Sroka nailed an 18-yard field goal as time expired to help Liberty Christian knock off Springtown 40-37 in a thriller at Porcupine Stadium.

Springtown tied the game at 37 with just over five minutes left in the game on sophomore running back Ryan Snow’s 1-yard touchdown run. On Liberty’s next possession, the Warriors (1-0) put together a 14-play drive that ended with Sroka’s game-winning field goal.

“I thought our kids showed a lot of resiliency when we got behind, fourth year Liberty Christian head coach Greg Price said. “[Sroka] was a huge weapon for us.”

Sroka hit all three of his field goals and kicked the ball out of the end zone for a touchback on every kickoff.

Senior wide receiver-turned-quarterback Ford Foster completed 12 of 21 attempts for 101 yards and one touchdown. Foster added 55 yards on the ground and two scores.

Liberty dominated on the ground as two running backs eclipsed the century mark. Senior running back Camron Cornett finished with 19 carries for 149 yards and a touchdown, while Junior JonAaron Howell had 14 carries for 101 yards.

Liberty found itself down early after Springtown’s Ryan Snow scored from 4 yards out. Snow finished with 19 carries for 87 yards and two scores.

Liberty meets Sanger in the Warriors’ first home game of the season this Friday.
