Volleyball: Dillard, Windham fuel UNT sweep

JONESBORO, Ark. — Reigning Sun Belt Conference player of the week Carnae Dillard dominated and North Texas got killer blocking from Courtney Windham in a 26-24, 25-16, 25-17 win over Arkansas State on Friday.

Dillard landed 12 kills for the Mean Green (17-5, 3-0 Sun Belt West), which kept the Red Wolves (10-8, 1-2) off balance with a .304 attack percentage.

UNT has won seven straight matches, which is tied for the second-longest streak in school history.

UNT outblocked ASU 13-4, and Windham sent back two solo blocks and nine assisted blocks — the most assisted blocks by a Mean Green player since Brittney Gregory landed 10 in 2004.

With 88 assisted blocks, Windham is on pace to shatter the school record of 119 set by Kim Martin in 1987.

UNT robbed the Red Wolves of a sure first-set victory. The Mean Green used a 7-2 rally to grab its first lead at 25-24. Dillard provided three kills in the decisive run before Windham slammed home the set-clinching kill.

A kill from Eboni Godfrey capped off a 6-1 UNT run to open the second set. In the third set, Arkansas State gave UNT seven straight points on attack and serving errors.

North Texas today travels to face Arkansas-Little Rock.
