Jimmerson, Warner charged with theft

North Texas redshirt freshman running back Antoinne Jimmerson and sophomore cornerback Freddie Warner were arrested Thursday afternoon and charged with theft.

According to a police report, an employee of a department store at Golden Triangle Mall observed two men putting clothing into backpacks on a security video. Both allegedly left the store without paying for the items, which had an estimated value of between $50 and $500.

The employee notified Denton police, who arrested Jimmerson and Warner, according to the report.

Jimmerson and Warner each posted $500 bail and were released from the Denton City Jail.

Both players are 19.

“It’s still early in the process,” UNT athletic director Rick Villarreal said. “We are working with the university and will take the appropriate action when all the information is accumulated.”

Jimmerson was one of UNT’s top players this season, when he scored a team-high eight touchdowns in 10 games. The former DeSoto standout missed UNT’s last two games after breaking his shoulder blade in a win over South Alabama.

Jimmerson scored the game-wining touchdown on a 78-yard reception late in the fourth quarter of a win over Louisiana-Lafayette and rushed for 139 yards in a win over Texas Southern.

No UNT player rushed for more yards in a game than Jimmerson, who was named the team’s Newcomer of the Year at its annual banquet Dec. 7.

Jimmerson rushed for 544 yards and five touchdowns in addition to catching 12 passes for 205 yards and three touchdowns.

Warner was among UNT’s top defensive backs in 2011. He played as a backup in four games before starting the next three. Warner broke his foot in the third game he started, a loss to Louisiana-Lafayette, and missed the rest of the season.

The former Dallas Pinkston standout was expected to start in 2012, but he tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee in spring practice.

UNT hoped to get Warner back late in the season, but he tore the same ligament a second time during the rehabilitation process.

Warner had a second ACL reconstruction surgery on his knee Oct. 24.
