MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — North Texas swept a three-game Sun Belt Conference series against Middle Tennessee with a 10-2 win Sunday at Blue Raider Field.
The Mean Green (22-20, 9-9 Sun Belt) posted a season-high 15 hits. The offense exploded for six runs in the sixth inning behind a grand slam by Brooke Foster. The game ended in the sixth on the run rule.
Brittany Simmons (8-8) pitched four innings of shutout softball. She allowed one hit. Lauren Poole pitched the final two innings, allowing two runs and two hits.
Bryana Wade and Karly Williams plated runs in the second to put UNT ahead 2-0. Willliams then scored on an error, and Jordan Terry made it 4-0 with an RBI single in the fifth.
After Middle Tennessee (5-41, 1-18) scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth, the Mean Green offense opened up. Foster hit her first career grand slam, and Taylor Schoblocher tied for the team lead with her seventh home run.
UNT’s Dani Hoff posted a double in the sixth, her 13th of the season. The school record is 16.
Six UNT players had multiple hits Sunday. Foster led the Mean Green over the weekend with a .611 batting average and four RBIs.
North Texas will host No. 1 Oklahoma at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
