UNT athletics key figures

The following is a look at some of the key figures involved in North Texas athletics as the school’s football program prepares for its 100 year anniversary:

Rick Villarreal —The former Southern Miss official has been UNT’s athletic director since 2001 and overseen an era of expansion and facilities upgrades at the school, including construction of Apogee Stadium.

C. Dan Smith —The former UNT football player and former chairman of the school’s board of regents is among the athletic program’s most influential boosters and gave $1 million toward construction of Apogee.

Ernie Kuehne —The former UNT track athlete and current member of the school’s board of regents has given in excess of $2 million to the school’s athletic program.

Don Lovelace —UNT softball stadium is named after booster, who is a key figure in the school’s efforts to add a baseball program.

Dan McCarney —UNT’s head football coach posted a 9-15 mark in his first two seasons at the school, exceeding the program’s eight combined wins from the four seasons prior to his 2011 arrival.
