North Texas running back Brandin Byrd and wide receiver Mike Marshall both received Player of the Week honors from Conference USA on Monday for their performance in the Mean Green’s 42-10 win over Tulsa to close out the regular season.

Byrd rushed for 251 yards and shared the Offensive Player of the Week honor with Southern Miss quarterback Nick Mullens. Marshall blocked two punts and was named the league’s Special Teams Player of the Week.

Byrd scored on a 91-yard touchdown run and had the highest single-game rushing total for a C-USA player this season. The former Copperas Cove standout became just the 10th running back in UNT history to surpass the 1,000-yard mark for a season and has 1,023 yards on the year.

Byrd had scored three touchdowns against Tulsa and averaged 9.7 yards a carry.

Both of Marshall’s blocked punts set up UNT touchdowns. Defensive end Jarrian Roberts returned one for a touchdown that put UNT up for good after Tulsa took an early 7-0 lead. The first punt Marshall blocked gave UNT the ball at its 47 and set up a six-play scoring drive, which Antoinne Jimmerson capped with a 12-yard touchdown run.
