HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — The NCAA’s Division I Subcommittee for Legislative Relief issued a “blanket waiver” Thursday for teams that exceeded the limit of four games or exhibitions against non-Division I teams in a season.

North Texas was among the teams that exceeded the limit by playing teams that had not completed the four-year transition to Division I.

UNT played exhibition games against Oklahoma City, which competes at the NAIA level, and Southeastern Oklahoma State, which plays in Division II. The Mean Green then played Northwood and Wayland Baptist, two NAIA opponents, in the regular season.

UNT also played a regular-season game against Incarnate Word, which is making the transition from Division II to Division I and the Southland Conference.

The waiver will allow UNT to count its win over Incarnate Word in addition to wins over Northwood and Wayland Baptist, and not have to forfeit.
