North Texas’ 4-1 victory over South Alabama on Saturday completed its dual season, giving the Mean Green a record of 10-10.

“This was an important match heading into conference play,” UNT coach Sujay Lama said. “We had to compete hard against a good team today. The doubles point was huge. Dane [Joubert] and Agustina [Valenzuela] have great chemistry. They found a way to win the deciding doubles point. That gave us the momentum and confidence for singles.”

Joubert and Valenzuela captured the doubles point with an 8-7 (7-1) win at the No. 3 spot. Kseniya Bardabush and Franziska Sprinkmeyer led the way with a 8-3 win over South Alabama’s No. 1 pair.

In singles play, Valenzulea finished first with a 6-4, 6-3 win, keeping the momentum from doubles going for the Mean Green. Sprinkmeyer picked up the next point for the Mean Green with a 7-5, 6-2 victory.

Bardabush earned the match-deciding point with her 6-4, 0-6, 6-0 win over Lady Jaguar Michaela Meszarosora.

The Jaguars’ only point of the match came from Monica Mitta, who defeated Alexis Thoma 6-0, 6-4 at the No. 5 spot.

North Texas will head to Norfolk, Va., for the Conference USA championships, which begin Wednesday.
