HOUSTON — North Texas’ Deja McKnight set a personal record in the women’s hammer throw to start the Conference USA track and field meet Friday at Rice.
McKnight’s ninth-place finish led the way for the Mean Green. Her throw of 48.67 meters bested her mark set this season at the UTEP Invitational by more than a meter. Sophomore Ngozi Nweke finished in the top 20 with her throw of 43.98. Kandace Rose had her fourth-best throw at 38.85.
In the 10,000 meters, Silvester Harrison III put the UNT men on the map in 32 minutes, 3.6 seconds. His eighth-place finish earned the first points of the meet for North Texas. Freshman Grady Frazier posted a personal-best 32:53.47 in 13th place.
UNT’s Shauna Pali was 12th in the women’s 10,000 with a time of 37:55.49, just off her personal record posted at the Mt. San Antonio College Relays this season.
The North Texas men finished the day in ninth place. The meet continues today with the women’s high jump at 3 p.m. and men’s 1,500 at 5 p.m.
