Two North Texas players who were charged Monday with theft in connection with an incident involving a pair of televisions at a Denton Walmart were suspended from the team indefinitely by coach Dan McCarney on Wednesday.

Linebacker Shedrell Devante Ellis, 19, and tight end Christopher Devante Loving, 21, met with McCarney, who later announced the suspensions in a prepared statement.

“After having a chance to speak with Chris and Sed about this situation, I have decided to suspend them from the North Texas football program indefinitely,” McCarney said in the statement. “We have built this program on integrity, and we have high expectations from all of our student athletes on and off the field. This type of behavior will not be tolerated.”

Ellis was listed as a co-starter at outside linebacker heading into fall practice. The players will not be permitted to work out with the team during their suspension, a UNT spokesman said.
