The North Texas tennis team capped a highly successful weekend this afternoon, when the Mean Green knocked off UTA 4-2 in Arlington.
UNT won the doubles point and then picked up singles wins from Maria Kononova, Tamuna Kutubidze and Laura Arciniegas.
The victory was UNT's third in a row, giving the Mean Green a whole lot of momentum heading into next week's Conference USA tournament. UNT is hosting the event this year.
The tournament begins on Thursday at the Waranch Tennis Center.
While UNT's win over UTA was important, it was far from the highlight of the week. The Mean Green also knocked off rival SMU on Thursday in their final regular season home match of the year.
It's big any time UNT knocks off SMU in any sport, and the Mean Green did it in dominating fashion. UNT rolled to a 6-1 win and sent senior Alexis Thoma out on a high note.
"Her legacy is how she carries herself and this team every single day," Lama said in a prepared statement after the match. "She gives every part of her body, soul and heart. That's what makes her special and today it showed."
Conference USA will announce the tournament bracket in the next few days.
