The Sunday leftovers: Looking back at the moves UNT has made in men's basketball

It's Sunday night and time for the leftovers, that time of the week where we dig back through the events of the weekend, reheat the good stuff -- and some of the bad -- while hopefully putting it all in perspective.

The big news of the last few days are the moves new UNT men's basketball coach Grant McCasland is making in terms of the Mean Green's roster. To review, Rickey Brice and Ja'Michael Brown are out. Forwards Mark Tikhonenko (Mt. Zion Prep), Tope Arikawe (Panola College) and guards Mike Miller (Shawnee Community College) and Roosevelt Smart (New Mexico Junior College) are in.

UNT had a terrible record when it came to signing transfers and prep schools players under Tony Benford. The Mean Green will have to hope Grant McCasland fares better. It seems like a pretty safe bet he will.

And in other news ...

-- Jack York, an offensive lineman from First Baptist Academy, decommitted from Texas State this weekend. The three-star prospect told me today that he wants to keep his options open, but that UNT is definately in the mix.

-- The UNT tennis team knocked off UTA and SMU over the last few days and will head into the Conference USA tournament beginning Thursday on a roll. The Mean Green usually play their best tennis when it matters at the end of the year. That looks like it will be the case again.

-- On the softball front, UNT lost two out of three in a series at UAB. Jessica Elder and Kelli Schkade saved UNT from being swept. Elder threw a two-hit shutout and Schkade, UNT's senior shortstop, hit a solo home run to give the Mean Green a 1-0 win in the final game of the series.

-- And while this isn't UNT related, this video of Texas' new lockers that came out this week is really interesting ...

The Longhorns' new lockers have big screen TVs for name plates.

In a fun side note, former Denton Guyer standout Jerrod Heard's locker is the one featured in the video.
