Golf: UNT finishes 10th at C-USA tournament

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Freshman Elena Kim fired a career-low 1-under 71 for North Texas on the final day of the Conference USA tournament at the Verandah Club. The Mean Green finished 10th with a three-round total of 924.

First-year coach Michael Akers improved UNT's team score by 25 strokes from a season ago, when it finished 11th. The Mean Green jumped up 66 spots in the national rankings. North Texas also improved its stroke average from last year by 10 shots per round.

Kim led the Mean Green with her 71, earning all-tournament honors and finishing tied for fourth. Kim's three-round total of 219 (75-73-71) was eight shots from tying the school record. Classmate Lauren Fox shot 78 and finished tied for 27th at 228.

Kim's 71 was the second-best score among 55 competitors.

Old Dominion came away with the championship after shooting a final-round 289 to defeat defending champion Middle Tennessee. MTSU's Jenna Burris was the individual champion at 7-under 209.
