The countdown is on this afternoon to one of the bigger games of the season for the North Texas athletic department.

The NCAA women's soccer tournament begins this weekend, and UNT will be in action at Texas at 5 p.m.

This is the fifth time UNT has played in the NCAA tournament. The Mean Green have lost each of their previous four games, including a 1-0 squeaker at the end of the 2015 season at Texas Tech.

The tough part for UNT is that it is always on the road in the NCAAs, playing a highly ranked team from a power conference.

This year isn't any different. Texas is ranked 18th nationally.

Here is the story we ran in advance of the game earlier this week.

The one key difference is the the confidence UNT has entering the game after falling 1-0 to Texas earlier this year.

"For us to be tied with that team we are playing in the tournament is a confidence boost for us," UNT senior forward Cat Sebazco said. "We have nothing to be scared of."

UNT allowed just one goal in three games in the Conference USA tournament and beat Charlotte in the final on penalty kicks.

The game will be on the Longhorn Network at 5 p.m.
