AUSTIN -- A 20th-minute goal by Texas set the tone in Friday's first-round NCAA tournament match, and North Texas fell 3-0 at Mike A. Myers Stadium and was eliminated.

Texas held the potent Mean Green offense to eight shots and three shots on goal. But more importantly UT broke though a North Texas defense that had only given up one goal in its previous four matches.

"Texas is an outstanding team and is well deserving of their No. 4 seeding," said Mean Green coach John Hedlund. "It's disappointing for all of us because we feel we gave up a couple soft goals and that's not who we were the last five games when we made the run to win our fifth C-USA championship."

After taking a 2-0 lead into halftime, Texas struck again in the 68th minute.

The Mean Green's Natalie McDonough had a team-leading three shots and had one just miss over the cross bar.

Seniors Cat Sebazco and Tori Phillips end their UNT careers with 64 wins.
