North Texas announced the addition of 14 players on the opening day of the early signing period on Wednesday.

There were no real surprises in terms of additions. Every player on UNT's signing list was either someone we wrote about in the paper or mentioned online.

Here's the official rundown.

UNT coach Seth Littrell is not available to answer questions about the class today, but UNT did put out a statement:

"As we raise the level of expectation around this program, we have to continue to bring in players that can help us accomplish our goals," Littrell said. "Competing for championships and playing in bowl games is now the standard for Mean Green football, and these young men that we signed today will help us do that for the foreseeable future."UNT put out an official statement from Seth Littrell, but isn't going to have any availability for him to answer questions today.

Here are a few quick notes and thoughts:

-- UNT did pretty well overall. The website 247Sports ranks the Mean Green's class sixth out of 14 teams in Conference USA and 100th nationally. Western Kentucky, Louisiana Tech and Florida International came in first through third respectively.  As far as other programs of interest go, SMU came in at No. 72 in the national rankings.

-- The one notable absence on UNT's signing list is Waco Midway guard Daizion Carroll, who appears to be out of the picture.

-- There were some who questioned whether quarterbacks Kason Martin and Jason Bean would end up in UNT's signing class or if one would gray shirt. Both signed in the midterm period.

-- The positions listed for a couple of recruits sheds some light on how UNT plans to use them. Josh Sa'afi is listed as a linebacker and seems like a fit for the Jack spot that Joshua Wheeler played last season. Sa'afi is a player UNT can move around from linebacker to defensive line to defensive end. Keyvon Davis is listed as a linebacker. He played safety in high school.

-- UNT went for some quick-fix JUCO help. The Mean Green struggled at times defensively this year and grabbed two plug-and-play guys in Sa'afi and defensive lineman Darrian McMillan. UNT also picked up an immediate impact player at running back in Mississippi Gulf Coast product DeAndre Torrey. UNT lost star running back Jeffery Wilson and backup Andrew Tucker to graduation. Nic Smith is  the heir apparent, but Torrey gives UNT another option.
