North Texas signee Kason Martin put on quite a show during the Class 5A Division I state title game tonight.

Martin played his final game for Manvel, which took on Highland Park.

Martin threw for 483 yards and five touchdowns. He nearly had a sixth, but a Manvel wide receiver was cut down a yard short of the end zone on the final play of the game.

Highland Park escaped with a 53-49 win.

Martin committed to UNT over the summer after throwing for nearly 3,500 yards and 46 touchdowns in 2016. The Houston Chronicle named Martin it's All-Greater Houston Newcomer of the Year.

Martin threw for 2,564 yards and 34 touchdowns through 14 games and added to that total in the state title game.

UNT has Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year Mason Fine returning for his junior season in 2018 after leading the Mean Green to the league's West Division title and an appearance in the New Orleans Bowl.

Martin will join what will be a deep quarterback room next season that will also include redshirt freshman Cade Pearson and fellow freshman Jason Bean.
