The North Texas women's basketball team will face Louisiana Tech this afternoon in the quarterfinals of the Conference USA tournament at the Ford Center.

UNT is the No. 11 seed and upset Charlotte, the No. 6 seed, in the first round. The Mean Green played well defensively and showed better offensive balance in a 58-55 win.

UNT had four players finish with at least eight points. Terriell Bradley scored 16 points to lead the Mean Green and continued her consistent play.

The key for UNT was the fact several other players got into the act. Lauren Holmes came back from going scoreless in a loss to Rice to end the regular season with 11 points. Grace Goodhart scored 10 points and hit a huge 3 late. Micayla Buckner added eight.

UNT is 16-13 in a season the Mean Green have taken another step forward no matter what happens today.  It is worth mentioning again that this is UNT's first winning season in 12 years. The Mean Green have also won a conference tournament game for the third straight year under coach Jalie Mitchell.

UNT has not won multiple games in a conference tournament since 2002, when Mitchell was playing for the Mean Green.

Louisiana Tech is the No. 3 seed and is 19-10 on the season. Alexus Malone is averaging 14.2 points and 9.0 rebounds per game for the Lady Techsters and was a first team All-C-USA selection this year. Kierra Anthony is adding 14.3 points per game and was a second-team pick.

Louisiana Tech won the regular season meeting between the teams 61-53.

Stay tuned. I will update the blog all day.
