Atwood defends Blowout title

Evan Allard and Chad Dowdy of Team Miller Lite draw the bull away from rider Ty Green on their way to winning the cowboy protection match at the North Texas Fair & Rodeo on Saturday night.

Defending champion Cody Atwood, picked up his second buckle in as many years for his high-point ride over the three-day North Texas Fair and Rodeo Bull Blowout.

Atwood’s 86-point ride on the first night of competition was the highest score posted in three performances featuring more than 75 contestants. Riggin Phillips of McKinney had the high-point ride of the night with an 83.

The third and final performance Saturday night, in front of a standing-room-only crowd, was also the final performance of the cowboy protection match. Team Miller Lite members Chad Dowdy and Evan Allard came out on top with 241 points. The RDL Team of Cody Patton and Ross Johnson shared second place (226) with Team Rudy’s BBQ’s Pat Riha and Ross Hill. Coming in third was Team Wells Fargo’s Tanner Zarnetski and Colby Klumb.

Team Miller Lite won the three-night average with 608 total points. Second was Team Rudy’s BBQ with 591, while third place went to Team RDL (583).
