Hunter Dozier promoted to Class A Lexington

Former Denton and Stephen F. Austin standout Hunter Dozier continued his journey toward the major leagues Monday when the Kansas City Royals announced his transfer to the Class A Lexington Legends.

Dozier, who was drafted eighth overall in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft, played in 47 games for the Idaho Falls Chukars in the rookie Pioneer League. He primarily played third base and batted .293 with six home runs, 35 RBIs and 22 doubles.

In his last 10 games, the infielder batted .361 with two homers, eight RBIs and an OPS (on-base plus slugging) of 1.187.

“It’s exciting news that the Royals are assigning this year’s first-round pick to the Legends,” Legends general manager Seth Poteat said on the team’s website. “The Legends are involved in a very tight race right now, and we’re looking forward to seeing Hunter Dozier in a Legends uniform.”

Dozier joined the Legends on Tuesday for a game against the Charleston RiverDogs.
