Volleyball roundup: Burleson tops Argyle in final

ARGYLE — Argyle finished as the runner-up in the Sawyer Camillo Memorial Tournament on Saturday. In bracket play, the Lady Eagles defeated Little Elm 25-22, 19-25, 25-11, 25-14 and Guyer 25-16, 25-20, 25-23 before falling 28-26, 25-15, 25-18 in the final to Burleson.

For the tournament, Argyle’s Eighmy Dobbins and Katy Keenan each totaled 62 kills. Laine Lowry had 73 digs and Alexa Bass had 23 aces.

The Lady Wildcats (14-8) finished third in the tourney. Following the loss to Argyle, Guyer beat Springtown 25-21, 25-15, 25-15.

Guyer’s Madison Walford made the all-tournament team.

Argyle will host Keller Central at 6 p.m. Tuesday, while Guyer plays at Little Elm at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.


Rockwall d. Denton

FRISCO — Denton’s run in the Gold Bracket of the Frisco tournament ended with a 25-19, 25-11 loss to Rockwall.

The Lady Broncos (6-10) play at Denison at 7 p.m. Tuesday.


Aubrey loses two of three

WHITESBORO — Aubrey defeated Anna 22-25, 25-21, 25-15 but fell to Sherman (25-13, 25-22) and Pottsboro (24-26, 25-15, 27-25) in the Whitesboro tournament.

On Friday, the Lady Chaps (9-15) lost to Callisburg 25-14, 25-11, 25-12.

Aubrey’s Natalie Gattuso had 25 kills Saturday. Alex Martinez had 24 assists and Micayla Porter 23.

Martinez also had seven aces and Hannah Schmitz tallied seven blocks.

Aubrey will host Gainesville at 5 p.m. Friday.
