Several of the area’s top softball teams begin postseason play today, and two of those teams won’t have any margin for error, as state-ranked teams from Guyer and Pilot Point face one-game playoffs with hopes of advancing to the area round next week.

Guyer (24-4), No. 26 in the Texas Girls Coaches Association’s Class 4A poll, lost a coin flip and will have to play a winner-take-all game against Saginaw, the No. 3 seed from District 6-4A. First pitch is scheduled for 7:30 tonight at Justin Northwest.

Defending Class 2A state champion Pilot Point (24-5), ranked fifth, suffered the same fate and must play a one-game playoff tonight against Tom Bean with an 8:30 p.m. first pitch at Prosper.

No. 20 Ponder (20-8) will open the Class 2A playoffs in a best-of-three series against Grandview, with all three games being played at Saginaw Chisholm Trail. Today’s game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., with Game 2 set for 5 p.m. Friday. Game 3, if necessary, would be played at 11 a.m. Saturday.

A fourth ranked team, No. 14 Sanger (22-3), will open the Class 3A playoffs Friday at Carrollton Ranchview with a 6 p.m. first pitch. Ranchview visits Sanger for Game 2 at 11 a.m. Saturday, with Game 3, if necessary, set for 30 minutes after its conclusion.

Argyle (13-16) and Krum (17-12) will play a best-of-three series at Denton beginning at 7 tonight. Game 2 is set for 7 p.m. Friday, and a possible Game 3 would be played at 10 a.m. Saturday.
