McKeehan signs letter of intent

With the goal of someday making it to the major leagues, Ryan senior pitcher Chris McKeehan has signed a national letter of intent to play at Texas-Pan American.

In his junior season, McKeehan went 11-2 as a starter with a 1.45 ERA and recorded 86 strikeouts in 87 innings. He pitched two shutouts.

“The coaching staff was great and when I went down there I fell in love with it, so I felt like it was the right choice,” McKeehan said. “I feel like they are a program that can prepare me really well to make it to the [majors], because that is definitely my goal. I feel like they can get me to that point, and after three or four years hopefully I’ll enter the draft and be successful from there on.”

McKeehan also spent time at third base while hitting in the fourth spot in the Raiders’ lineup on his way to a .340 batting average with 27 RBIs, one home run, 11 doubles, 20 runs and a .483 on-base percentage.

“Chris has definitely worked hard and had an extremely good year for us,” Ryan head coach Bret Warnack said. “He was the MVP of our district and 11-2 on the mound for us. I’ve only had two other guys win more than 11 games ever. We’re very proud that he has the opportunity to play college baseball.”

With his immediate collegiate future secure, McKeehan is looking forward to a stress-free senior season.

“It’s definitely a weight lifted,” McKeehan said. “I didn’t think I was going to sign this soon. The first or second signing period would have been good, but this definitely relieves a lot of pressure. You don’t have to do the whole recruiting process. Now you can just work on getting better and getting ready for college baseball.”
