Cross country: Ryan freshman sets school record

HURST — Ryan freshman Katelynn Soltero set a school record on Saturday in the Pioneer Trail Run at Tarrant County College’s Northeast Campus.

Soltero finished fifth overall in the girls 5,000-meter run with a time of 20 minutes, 14.79 seconds. Soltero’s teammate, Julia DeLeon, finished 71st with a time of 24:21.28. Flower Mound Marcus’ Payton Brown won the event with a time of 19:28.23.

DeLeon previously set the school record last season, the first in which girls ran 5,000 meters.

In the boys 5,000, Jacob Babbidge of Marcus won with a mark of 16:23.82. Ryan’s top finisher was Landon Hammock, who finished in 44th at 19:00.15.

The Ryan boys finished 11th in the team standings with a score of 290. Marcus won with a low score of 26.
