Basketball roundup: Sandies blow past Ponder

DECATUR — A strong showing in the second and third quarters allowed Amarillo to come away with a 51-38 victory over Ponder on the last day of the Decatur tournament.

The Sandies went on a 37-20 run during the middle periods after the Lions had led 9-8 after the first quarter.

Clay Morgan finished with 17 points to lead Ponder, which plays at Bridgeport at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.


Sanger 59, Aubrey 52

AUBREY — Sanger’s second-quarter outburst on offense helped lead it to a third-place finish in the Aubrey tournament with a 59-52 win over the host Chaparrals.

Aubrey also lost earlier in the day to Bonham, 39-30.

For the Indians (4-6), Tanner Thomas scored 22 points and Tyler Roelofs scored 14. Michael Page tallied 18 points and Drew Davis added 10 in a losing effort for the Chaparrals (6-4).

Sanger plays at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Celina, while Aubrey will play at Irving North Hills at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
