Basketball: Postseason begins tonight for area girls

An old, once-heated rivalry will be renewed today when Argyle and Sanger open the girls basketball postseason with a 7 p.m. tipoff at Denton High School.

The teams are former district rivals and will be once again in the new alignment beginning next season. Argyle (30-1) has spent much of the season as the No. 2 team in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Class 3A state poll.

One other area team will open the postseason today as Guyer (21-5) will play Saginaw Chisholm Trail in the bi-district round of the Class 4A playoffs with a 6:30 p.m. tipoff at Richland High School.

The remaining area teams will open postseason play on Tuesday, when Aubrey (13-13) will play 9-3A top seed Decatur at a time and site to be determined.

Aubrey won a play-in game against Carrollton Ranchview on Friday night to qualify for the postseason.

At 7 p.m. Tuesday, Krum (19-18), the second seed from 9-3A, will take on Frisco Lone Star at Lake Dallas.
