TWU extended its unbeaten streak to four games with a scoreless draw against Midwestern State at a muddy TWU Soccer Field on Sunday.
“It was a winnable game for us,” TWU coach Fleur Benatar said. “It’s not a loss, so I’m happy. The girls put a lot of effort in. The conditions did have a little bit to do with it.”
TWU sophomore goalkeeper Lindsey Sisco earned her first career shutout. TWU (5-3-2, 4-1-1 Lone Star) outshot Midwestern 15-12 in the game, including 4-2 in the two overtime periods.
The Mustangs’ previous two games went to double overtime.
“We haven’t been in an overtime, so it was a little new for some of the girls,” Benatar said. “We did well to not get scored on in the overtime. I thought we had good chances.”
TWU’s Brittany Martin hit a shot off the crossbar in the 62nd minute. Midwestern goalie Mallory Whitworth made a stop on Candice Davies’ header in the 69th minute.
The Pioneers, second in the standings, will finish their first round of conference games when they visit eighth-place Texas A&M-Commerce at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
