SANGER — The Sanger Indians ended their 14-game losing streak with a big performance by running back Tre’von Jackson, who bulldozed his way over the Pilot Point Bearcats in a 50-17 victory.

Jackson pounded away at the Bearcats (1-2) all night, with the help of an offensive line that gained momentum as the game wore on. By the time it was done, the junior rushed for 259 yards and five touchdowns and caught three passes for 53 yards and another touchdown.

Entering Friday night’s game Jackson had 139 yards rushing and 59 yards receiving in the season’s first two games, with only one touchdown.

Sanger (1-2) lost its final two games of 2011, all 10 games in 2012 and its first two games of 2013 entering Friday night’s game.

Jackson helped put an end to that, though the Indians were slow to get going.

The first half was marred by a combined five turnovers, three of which Sanger committed. But once Jackson had momentum, he didn’t slow down. That moment came with less than a minute to play in the first quarter when Jackson found a seam up the middle and sprinted 67 yards for a touchdown.

Jackson added a 10-yard touchdown run in the second quarter to give the Indians a 13-3 halftime lead. He then keyed an explosive third quarter that saw the Indians score 30 points. Jackson scored on a 30-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Brandon Mann (7-of-11, 180 yards, two touchdowns). Jackson then followed that with a 66-yard touchdown run on the next drive, giving the Indians a 27-3 lead midway through the third quarter.

By then the game was on its way to being a rout. The Bearcats finally got into the end zone in the third quarter on a 51-yard touchdown pass from Travis Garrett to Creed Bright, but it was one of their few highlights in the game.

Garrett threw for 138 yards, while Bright caught five passes for 88 yards and Dacoven Bailey had eight catches for 74 yards. But the offense struggled for consistency all night, committing three turnovers and was unable to convert several opportunities within Sanger’s 30-yard line.

Sanger’s Peyton Howard picked Garrett off in the first half, while teammates Jarrod Huther and Dalton Hassell recovered fumbles. Pilot Point forced four turnovers, including fumble recoveries by John Groff, Garrett and Lucas Greenwood.

Wyatt Broxson led the Indians in receiving with three catches for 102 yards and a touchdown.
