Volleyball roundup: Ryan, Calvary perform well at tournaments

GAINESVILLE — The Ryan Lady Raiders claimed third place in this weekend’s NCTC Invitational on Saturday after winning two of three matches on the day.

Ryan (9-5) defeated Whitesboro 19-25, 25-12, 25-18 to start the day.

The Lady Raiders then lost to Lindsay 25-21, 18-25, 25-15 before topping Godley 20-25, 25-23, 25-20 in the third-place match.

Sydney Lundgren finished with 67 kills in the tournament. Arissa Chapell had 88 digs, Halle Evans 66 assists and Faith Pittman seven blocks.

Ryan plays at Wichita Falls at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.


Calvary wins division in tournament

GRAHAM — The Calvary volleyball team swept its matches for the second consecutive day, winning the small-school division championship at the Graham tournament.

The Lady Lions (11-3) defeated Wichita Falls Rider JV 25-17, 25-23, Archer City 27-25, 25-15, and Holliday 25-21, 25-20.

For the day, Jordan Debus had 36 kills — 62 for the tournament — and 31 digs. Alex Martinez added 13 digs and 42 assists on day 2, while Kelly Crow led the team with 35 digs.

Calvary will play at Tioga at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
