Middle school roundup: Harpool tosses three shutout quarters

The Harpool eighth-grade girls grabbed a six-point first-quarter lead and held Crownover scoreless for the final three periods Thursday night in a 36-2 A-team victory.

Hailey Masoner led the Lady Longhorns (8-4) with 11 points and three steals while Oliva Ramirez and Meredith Wood each had nine points. Wood grabbed five rebounds and had three assists.

Launa Torrez led the Lady Cowboys (3-3) with two points.

Harpool eighth-grade ‘B’ 36, Crownover 9

The Harpool Lady Longhorns took control of the game early and handed Crownover its first loss.

Sami Gomez led Harpool (5-1) with 18 points and had six steals. Fizzah Fasih had six points and Tamira Franklin had four.

Bri Walsh led the Lady Cowboys (5-1) with five points.

McMath eighth-grade ‘A’ 34, Calhoun 3

The McMath Lady Tigers used a suffocating defensive effort to improve to 6-1 with a 31-point win against Calhoun.

McMath held Calhoun scoreless for the first three quarters. Abby Atkinson led the way with 14 points, followed by Megan Haney and Maddie Autwell with eight apiece.

McMath eighth-grade ‘B’ 18, Calhoun 15 (OT)

The McMath Lady Tigers had to go to overtime before pulling away for the victory against Calhoun.

London Pollard (3-4) led the Lady Tigers with six points.

McMath eighth-grade ‘C’ 8, Calhoun 1

Maddie Scott scored six points, and Aspen Regan added two as McMath defeated Calhoun.

Strickland eighth-grade ‘A’ 20, Myers 15

The Strickland Lady Vikings took an early lead and gradually pulled away from Myers for their first victory.

LaMaya McColor led the Lady Titans (2-4) with eight points while Dikeviah Daniel, Brianna Banks and Michelle McKinney had two.

Strickland eighth-grade ‘B’ 17, Myers 16

The Strickland Lady Vikings took a one-point third-quarter lead and made it hold up to defeat Myers.

Brittnie Schneider and Raven Sorrell led Myers with six points apiece.

Myers eighth-grade ‘C’ 14, Strickland 4

The Myers Lady Titans held Strickland scoreless for the final three quarters to take a 10-point win.

Tiana Robertson led Myers (4-2) with six points, and Torrance Gonzales, Melanie Hernandez and Johanna Coleman had two each.

McMath seventh-grade ‘A’ 46, Calhoun 7

The McMath Lady Tigers, behind the play of Abby Folsom and Kanisia Haley, overwhelmed the Calhoun Lady Cougars.

Folsom scored 20 points, Haley finished with 14 and Megan Fleitman added eight as McMath improved to 4-3.

McMath seventh-grade ‘B’ 42, Calhoun 7

The McMath Lady Tigers jumped out to a 14-0 lead and never looked back in defeating Calhoun.

Kaley Robinson led McMath (4-3) with 12 points, Avery Ruiz had eight and Kalyn Cardona six.

Myers seventh-grade ‘A’ 29, Strickland 8

Aniyah Johnson socred eight points and Maya Hurd added seven as the Myers Lady Titans (2-4) rolled past the Strickland Lady Vikings.

Harpool seventh-grade ‘A’ 42, Crownover 18

Harpool dominated from start to finish to take a 24-point victory against Crownover.

Alise Williams led the Lady Longhorns (11-1) with 16 points, followed by Hailey Mason with eight and Hayden Colson with six.

Maggie Walsh scored four points to lead Crownover (2-4).

Crownover seventh-grade ‘B’ 20, Harpool 17

Crownover’s Alexandria Gilmore hit the winning bucket with 22 seconds remaining to hand Harpool its first loss.

Gilmore finished with five points and Madeleine Landstad led the team with six as Crownover improved to 4-2.

Avery Hallmark and Laura Avila led Harpool (5-1) with four points apiece and Grace Brown had three.

Harpool seventh-grade ‘C’ 18, Crownover 5

The Harpool Lady Longhorns got off to a slow start but stormed back to take the win against Crownover.

Karli Hill paced the Harpool attack with 10 points while Abriel Vielma had four.

Bella Calderon led Crownover (3-3) with three points.



McMath eighth-grade ‘A’ 34, Calhoun 29

The McMath Tigers rallied from an early deficit to pull away for a five-point win against Calhoun.

Cameron Steven led McMath (3-4) with 14 points, Amir Fera added 10 and Louden Peterson had eight.

Calhoun eighth-grade ‘B’ 23, McMath 21

The Calhoun Courgars outscored McMath 8-0 in the third quarter en route to a two-point victory.

Jayden Toombs and Charlie Gutierrez led McMath (0-7) with six points apiece.

McMath seventh-grade ‘A’ 45, Calhoun 7

The McMath Tigers, behind the scoring of Nate Newton and Chris Feaster, jumped out to a 21-point first-quarter lead against Calhoun and coasted to victory.

Newton had 13 points and five steals while Feaster had 12 points and 16 rebounds to lead McMath (3-4). Ben Gutierrea added five points and six rebounds.

McMath seventh-grade ‘B’ 29, Calhoun 7

Jason Carter scored eight points, and Michael Pogue and Ryan Wilkens each had six as McMath defeated Calhoun.
