Volleyball: TWU stays perfect with two wins

The TWU volleyball team captured two more three-set wins Saturday to close out the 2012 Holiday Inn Express & Suites Classic with a perfect 4-0 record. The Pioneers did not drop a set in the four games over the weekend.

TWU defeated New Mexico Highlands 25-23, 25-16 and 25-19 and then knocked off Puerto Rico at Rio Piedras 27-25, 25-11 and 25-18. The Pioneers handed both teams their first losses of the season.

Senior Viktorija Jablonska led the Pioneers with 17 kills in the two games, while junior Chloe’ Tate added 15 kills and junior Courtnee Davis had 14. Sophomore Morgan Wilson had a team-high 21 digs, while Davis posted 13.

“We are playing as a team and having fun on the court,” TWU head coach Shelly Barberee said. “Our serve receiving and our defense were very good today. Courtnee and Morgan, along with our senior Erin Herman, did a very good job with passing the ball which led to lot of kills at the net.”

The Pioneers travel to Grand Junction, Colo., to play in the Holiday Inn Crossroads Classic at Colorado Mesa University. TWU will face Fort Hays State and Western State College on Friday and then take on Grand Canyon and Colorado Mesa on Saturday.
