KINGSVILLE — Chloe’ Tate had a match-high 13 kills and Josie Santos had 11 kills to lead TWU to a 25-22, 25-22, 26-24 win over Texas A&M-Kingsville in a Lone Star Conference opener.
Santos posted a team-high .435 hitting percentage and was one dig shy of a double-double. Kayla Rivero had 28 assists while Viktorija Jablonska added nine kills and 15 assists. Morgan Wilson and Erin Harman posted 13 and 12 digs, respectively.
The Pioneers fell behind early in each set but rallied late for the sweep. In the first set TWU trailed 18-13 before scoring 13 of the final 17 points. In the third set, the Pioneers were down 22-20 before closing out the match on a 6-2 run.
“We were a little nervous early but settled down and played a nice game,” TWU coach Shelly Barberee said. “Chloe’, Josie and everyone played a great game. We have so many weapons on this team and so much depth.”
The Pioneers (7-2) will visit Incarnate Word at 2 p.m. today.
