Volleyball: TWU sweeps past Abilene Christian

ABILENE — Junior outside hitter Josie Santos posted a game-high 14 kills to help the TWU Pioneers earn a sweep of host Abilene Christian, 25-6, 25-16 and 27-25.

TWU improves to 11-3 overall and 5-1 in the Lone Star Conference.

The Pioneers in their final regular-season trip to Abilene before ACU moves to Division I next season, posted a .255 hitting percentage while holding the Wildcats to .018. TWU recorded 41 kills and only 13 errors in the game.

“We were pumped up and the girls felt like they had something to prove,” TWU head coach Shelly Barberee said. “We played really well in the first two sets and had six blocks in the first set. They came back in the third and started playing like Abilene Christian, but we didn’t let down. I am proud of the girls.”

Santos finished with a game-high .394 hitting percentage. Juniors Marcela Alves and Courtnee Davis each had seven kills, while sophomore Kayla Rivero posted 17 assists and sophomore Hannah Marshall had 15. Sophomore Morgan Wilson recorded a game-high 12 digs, while Santos and junior Chloe’ Tate each had three solo blocks.

The Pioneers return to action at 7 p.m. Friday at Cameron in Lawton, Okla.
