Soccer: TWU falls 4-0 to Abilene Christian

ABILENE — TWU fell to Abilene Christian on the Wildcat Soccer Pitch.

The Wildcats scored two goals in each half. Jacey Ferrara scored in the 16th minute and Krysta Grimm made it 2-0 in the 34th. Megan Turner scored in the 83rd minute and Ferrara scored her second goal in the 89th minute.

The Pioneers (6-9-2, 5-7-1 Lone Star) matched Abilene Christian in shots, but the Wildcats had a 6-1 advantage in shots on goal. ACU also led TWU in corner kicks, 7-3.

“It was a struggle today,” TWU coach Fleur Benatar said. “The first two goals should be unearned. They finished well, but defensively we didn’t do our job. We had some good chances in the second half but could not get any on goal.”

The Pioneers were led by freshmen Kayla Gorney and Cecily Martinez with two shots apiece. Lindsey Sisco played 84 minutes in the net and made two saves, and Beatrice Soto guarded the net in the final six minutes.

The Pioneers will close out the regular season Saturday with a 7:30 p.m. game against Texas A&M-Commerce at the TWU Soccer Field.
