Basketball: TWU drops conference opener

COMMERCE — TWU opened Lone Star Conference play with a 63-52 loss at Texas A&M-Commerce on Wednesday.

Rebekah Cluley led TWU with 13 points while Toree Mason posted nine points and nine rebounds. Taylor Swift and Ria Pateraki added nine and eight points, respectively.

The Pioneers (2-4) trailed by one with five minutes to go in the first half after hitting nine of 11 free throws. The Lions closed out the first half on an 8-2 run to take an 11-point lead.

TWU cut a 15-point deficit to six points with 10 minutes left in the game. The Lions then pushed their lead to 61-45 with less than a minute left.  

TWU will host Tarleton State at 2 p.m. Saturday.
