Women’s basketball: TWU gets first conference victory

KINGSVILLE — Rachel Schlosser scored a game-high 16 points Saturday as TWU snapped a six-game losing streak with a 70-66 win at Texas A&M-Kingsville.

Schlosser led four Pioneers in double figures in scoring and added nine rebounds. She was 6-for-6 from the free throw line. Ria Pateraki recorded her third double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Rebekah Cluley and Taylor Swift added 11 points apiece. Barbara-Scott Kolb had eight points and five assists.

The Pioneers, who never trailed, shot 40.7 percent from the floor. TWU held a three-point lead at halftime after a 10-2 Javelina run.

The Pioneers opened the second half on a 7-2 run. TWU led by 13 with 2:14 left, but A&M-Kingsville cut the deficit to two points with 13 seconds left. The Pioneers hit three of four free throws to seal the win.

The Pioneers (3-6, 1-2 Lone Star) will return to the floor at 7 p.m. Dec. 19 to host Incarnate Word.
