Season highs in three of the four events and several career highs paved the way for a breakout performance by TWU against No. 1 Oklahoma on Friday. TWU posted a season-high 195.300 while losing to the Sooners (197.275).

Led by seniors Bethany Larimer, Kristin Edwards and Amy Winczura, the Pioneers opened the meet on vault with a team score of 48.575. Larimer scored a 9.825 while Edwards posted a 9.775 and Winczura a 9.750.

“We didn’t have our best vaults but still good scores,” TWU coach Lisa Bowerman said. “We have very little depth on vault, but those girls keep plugging away every single week.”

On bars, TWU scored a season-high 48.875. Courtney Cochefski led the Pioneers with a 9.850. Winczura and Spencer Jones posted career highs with scores of 9.800 and 9.775, respectively. Edwards and Stephanie Repp posted career highs at 9.725.

“We started with a fall on bars but came back and hit the next five routines,” Bowerman said. “This will give them lot of confidence moving forward.”

The Pioneers also set a season high on balance beam. All six gymnasts hit their routines and scored 9.700 or higher. Larimer led the team with a career-high 9.825, while Paisley Read posted a career-high 9.800. Jones scored a 9.775, Margaret Mayfield had a 9.750, Repp posted a 9.725 and Ciara Maradiaga finished with a 9.700.

“This is the third time we hit 6-for-6 on beam and posted a high score,” Bowerman said. “The girls didn’t look hesitant and really attacked the beam.”

On floor exercise in the final rotation, TWU tied its season high of 48.975. Edwards was the top performer with a 9.875, followed by Jones with a 9.850 and Winczura with a 9.800. Mayfield scored a 9.750 while Maradiaga finished with a career-high 9.700.

“We had some really good routines on floor,” Bowerman said. “Our landings and dance was perfect.”

Jones competed in all-around and set a career high with 39.000.

The Pioneers will travel to Cape Girardeau, Mo., to face Southeast Missouri State at 7 p.m. Friday.
