Gymnastics: Gymnasts headed to NCAA regionals

TWU junior Courtney Cochefski and senior Kristin Edwards have been selected to compete in the 2013 NCAA gymnastics regional championships as individuals.

Cochefski will compete in bars, while Edwards will compete in floor.

Both will compete in the Norman Regional at the University of Oklahoma’s Lloyd Noble Center at 4 p.m. April 6.

Cochefski qualified for her second straight regional with a regional qualifying score (RQS) of 9.825. She averaged a 9.766 this season and recorded a 9.750 or better in nine meets including a 9.800 or better in six meets. Cochefski tied for first on bars at the 2013 Midwest Independent Conference Championships on Saturday with a 9.850.

Edwards has a RQS of 9.845 and qualified for her first regional. She averaged a 9.809 this season and posted a 9.750 or better in 10 meets, including 9.800 or better in nine. Edwards placed in the top-three in five meets while finishing first three times.

Six teams, five all-around competitors (who are not on a qualifying team) and one individual event specialist per event were named to each of the six predetermined host sites.
